The long days and endless summer nights are the perfect time to squeeze in a bit of culture. Whether you’re looking for a day out with the children to see an entertaining theatre show, a fun evening out with friends, a peaceful stroll around an art gallery or perhaps even a night under the stars to watch a 400-year old-play – you’ll find it going on in

Angus this summer.

THeaTRe

Kicking off the summer with a little bit of romance is Heartbreak Productions’ version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the stunning surroundings of

Barry Mill.

Set in modern day, the play fuses modern language, music and technology together with this much celebrated story of true (and forbidden) love. Dress to impress and bring along a chair and a picnic to watch this magical retelling of unbridled passion unfold underneath a midsummer night’s sky. Barry Mill, July 13.

The Three Inch Fools are also offering a Shakespearian day out, performing not one but two of his plays in the gorgeous grounds of Glamis Castle. The five-strong troupe will arrive in Angus armed with all manner of musical instruments to present their own inventive take on Shakespeare’s infamous Scottish play Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing – a rip-roaring comedy of quarrels, deceptions and a frustratingly stupid man called Dogberry. Glamis Castle, July 16. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by author/illustrator Eric Carle has been delighting generations of readers since it was first published in 1969. Now the timeless classic has made its way off the page and on to the stage. Created by Jonathan Rockefeller, the critically acclaimed production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show features a menagerie of 75 lovable puppets, faithfully adapting four of Eric Carle’s stories – Brown Bear, Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, The Very Lonely Firefly and the star of the show, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath, July 17.

When the school summer holidays reach their peak it’s always good to

have a day trip to pull out of the bag. For younger children, a trip to see Milkshake Monkey at the Webster Theatre will be just the thing to curb any boredom complaints. This all-singing, all-dancing production features lots of TV show favourites including Fireman Sam, Noddy, Shimmer & Shine and Nella the Princess Knight along with two of the presenters from Channel

5’s Milkshake. Milkshake! Live, Milkshake Monkeys Musical, Webster Theatre, Arbroath August 12.
