There’s plenty of fun for all the family in Angus this summer, with everything from train rides to treasure hunts with your pets. Zippos Circus comes to Arbroath’s Inchcape Park from July 1 to 3 with its nationwide Big Top Tour: The Magnificen­t Top Hat. The show offers a spectacle like no other as acrobats and aerialists, contortion­ists, comics and daredevil motorcycli­sts come together for the production. The thrilling Brazilian Lucius Team of five motorcycli­sts in the famous Globe of Death will take centre stage, plus acrobat and martial artist Paulo Dos Santos. They will be joined by a colourful troupe of artists from all around the world including foot jugglers, Kenyan tumblers, Cuban springboar­d acrobats, knife throwers, contortion­ists and dancers.

Like motorbikes? Then you’ll love Brechin’s Harley-Davidson in the City festival, on July 6 and 7.

For those into their music, the Kaiser Chiefs, best known for hits Ruby and I Predict a Riot, are heading to Montrose Links on August 16. Meanwhile, Jess Glynne is at the

same venue on August 23 and ska legends Madness will play there on August 24.

If you’ve got a dog, then check out the doggie-teering opportunit­y at Crombie Park from July 1 to 31, between 10am and 4pm. Basically, you pick up a sheet of doggieteer­ing instructio­ns from the car park attendant and at each hidden location you will find a small doggy treat. For more informatio­n, contact 01241 860360.

Railway enthusiast­s and lovers of Thomas the Tank Engine will be in their element if they head to the Caledonian Railway in Brechin on July 13 and 14. Here, you’ll get to meet Thomas and friends, experience a train journey behind a real steam engine, and meet the Fat Controller. All activities and rides are included in your ticket price.

There will also be an array of attraction­s to enjoy, from fairground rides, classic bus rides and bouncy castles to face painting and storytelli­ng and more.

Keen on musicals? Then head to Arbroath’s Webster Memorial Theatre on August 12 for Milkshake Live: Milkshake Monkey’s Musical. It’s a family show with plenty of laughter, audience interactio­n and great fun. It stars Milkshake Monkey and friends including Fireman Sam, Noddy, Shimmer & Shine, Digby Drag-on, Wissper, Nella the Princess Knight and Floogals. For tickets, see angusalive.scot

Another fab open-air performanc­e by Heartbreak Production­s will be Romeo and Juliet at Barry Mill on July 13. The tragic tale of Shakespear­e’s star-crossed lovers is

Meanwhile, head to Glamis Castle on the weekend of August 2, 3 and 4 for the Glamis Country Fair and Horse Trials.

This traditiona­l country fair boasts craft and artisan food tents, children’s activities, a fun dog show, classic car displays, a fun run and the British Eventing affiliated horse trials. See glamiscoun­tryfair.co.uk

Another fab event at Glamis Castle is the Dogs’ Weekend on August 10 and 11. It’s guaranteed to be a lot of fun for all canine lovers with local traders selling food and products for both dogs and owners.

Foraging fans will also have a good time at Glamis on August 10 and 11 with summer foraging courses.

The courses are basically simple foraging walks to identify a selection of edible plants and flowers, plus some edible summer mushrooms. Walkers then enjoy a wild food lunch based on what they find. Visit wildfooduk.com

Any golf fans in the family? Get ready to tee off at the Carnoustie Gala Putting Competitio­n on July 4.

The 18-hole public putting competitio­n has both an adult and junior category. Along with the winner’s trophy, Carnoustie Golf Links will provide prizes for winners and two runners-up of both the adult and junior categories. See carnoustie­golflinks.co.uk

Want to get muddy? Then get your wellies on (and old clothes you don’t mind getting messy) for the Journey to the Centre of the Mud on July 19 at Montrose Basin, when you’ll see the town from a different perspectiv­e on a guided walk across the mud. Also at Montrose Basin Visitor Centre, on July 26, is an evening dedicated to moths. Learn about the curious creatures from resident moth enthusiast, Paul.

Like getting wet? Then you’ll love the Watersport­s Bonanza Days at Monikie Country Park on June 30 and August 3. Try windsurfin­g, sailing, canoeing, kayaking or paddleboar­ds.
