City pair won’t be only title contenders – Edjenguele

-

William Edjenguele has warned Dundee United it won’t be a straight two-horse fight with bitter rivals Dundee for the title next season.

The former United defender left Tannadice recently after three years on Tayside as he seeks to kick-start his career elsewhere.

Frenchman Edjenguele, 32, knows the Tangerines are gearing up to battle it out with James McPake’s new-look Dark Blues in their quest to finally win promotion back to the Premiership at the fourth attempt.

But former Coventry ace Edjenguele reckons it would be foolish to think only the two Dundee clubs will be title contenders when the Championship campaign gets under way in early August.

He said: “It’s going to be such a tough league once again. A lot of people are saying United and Dundee will be the strongest clubs and there will be plenty focus on them both.

“But I know from personal experience that there are other teams out there who could mount a challenge. Inverness, Ayr and Dunfermline will all have their own ideas so it’s going to be interesting.

“Of course, I would love to see United win the league. After three years there, I’ve still got a lot of time for the club.

“It’s been difficult being down in the Championship for the past few seasons and there’s been some hard moments to take.

“I’ll be keeping a close eye on their results and hope to see them get back to where they belong – but it won’t be easy.”

Edjenguele is on the look-out for a new club this summer and admits he’s relishing the challenge of starting afresh.

He added: “I wouldn’t rule anything out. Scotland wouldn’t be my first option for family reasons but we’ll see what comes up.”
