The members of the Dundee branch of the National Farmers’ Union of Scotland are to co-operate in a “down tool” policy with other agricultur­ists in the country until the Government reconsider the price fixed for the 1920 crop of oats. Mr G. W. Walker, Rawes, presided. It was pointed out that the Government guarantee for the 1920 crop of oats was 24s per quarter. Should anything happen to bring the price down to such a level, they would either lose a lot of money or be ruined.

Two Aberdour men returning home after visiting friends ran out of petrol and spent the night drifting in the River Forth. Mr Donald Reid (37) and Richard Clark (22) went in Mr Reid’s 17-foot power boat to visit friends in Limekilns. About nine o’clock at night they set off to return home. But on the trip to Aberdour the boat developed a minor trouble which necessitat­ed travelling at half throttle. It ran out of fuel 300 yards from the shore. Mr Reid made frantic attempts to signal to a naval minesweepe­r, but it was to no avail.

One of the most prestigiou­s post-graduate scholarshi­ps in Britain, worth around £70,000, has been awarded to Kerry Nelson, a printed textiles design graduate of Duncan of Jordanston­e College of Art, Dundee. Kerry (22) has just received a first class honours degree from the college and in September she will begin a two-year scholarshi­p to study the Japanese culture through her art. The award was set up in 1991 by the British-Japanese Daiwa Foundation and is normally awarded to technology or science graduates.

Scenes which saw thousands of drivers stuck in hour-long queues on Perth bypass could be repeated, it has been warned. The road was choked with traffic between Craigend and Broxden roundabout yesterday and Saturday due to a major programme of work which will not finish until next month. The queues stretched on to the slip roads from the Friarton Bridge and M90 from Edinburgh. Angry drivers took to social media to complain about the delays and the perceived lack of warning from the authoritie­s.
