Rovers and Gable Endies enjoy winning starts to pre-season

-

A Regan Hendry penalty gave Raith Rovers a 1-0 win against Stirling Albion.

Rovers, who started seven summer signings, managed to get the ball over the line in the 39th minute but the referee awarded a foul to the goalkeeper.

They dominated possession but Stirling nearly took the lead when a Gareth Rodgers header was cleared off the line.

Rovers eventually opened the scoring in the 77th minute.

Hendry was brought down in the box, took the spot-kick himself and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Brad Spencer came close to doubling the hosts’ lead but Rovers had to settle for a one-goal win.

Next up are Hamilton Accies at Stark’s Park on Thursday night.

l Montrose got a win under their belts to kick off pre-season.

The Links Park side secured a 2-1 home victory against Formartine.

Ross Campbell got the hosts off to a quick start with the opening goal.

Graeme Rodgers levelled the score near the half-hour mark but Stewart Petrie’s men restored their lead just before the break when Blair Lyons set up Russell McLean for a straightforward finish. It should have been a more emphatic win but Montrose couldn’t find a third in front of a crowd of 321.

The only bad news of the afternoon was Campbell going off injured in the first half.

l Ross County ran riot with an 11-0 victory in the testimonial match for long-serving Forres Mechanics midfielder Ross Macpherson at Mosset Park.

Declan McManus scored four and Brian Graham notched a quick-fire hat-trick as slick County ran the Forres defence ragged.

Staggies manager Steve Ferguson took one half of the Dingwall squad to Mosset Park while, at the same time, co-manager Stuart Kettlewell was in charge against Nairn County at Station Park.

l Caley Thistle manager John Robertson was pleased his side overcame their early rustiness to triumph 6-3 against Strathspey Thistle.

Inverness made a rocky start at Seafield Park and were two goals behind at half-time, but recovered to win comfortably courtesy of a six-goal second-half performance.
