Anstruther lifeboat hoping to lure new recruits after TV spot

-

A lifesaving crew from the East Neuk hopes people will be inspired to join following its television appearance.

Anstruther lifeboat featured on the BBC documentary series, Saving Lives at Sea.

Last week’s episode showed George Hodge and Barry Gourlay going to the aid of George’s father after he got in trouble while out fishing.

The team needs a new member and appealed for people aged between 17 and 55 to consider joining the charity service.

Volunteers must live or work within four miles of Anstruther l ifeboat station, be able to commit to training and have a personal life or job that will allow them to respond to shouts.

Last year the lifeboat launched 33 times, helping 29 people and saving one person’s life.

Station coxswain Michael Bruce said: “Volunteering with us gives people the opportunity to make a real difference in their local community, to save lives and become part of the larger RNLI family.

“We can’t keep people safe without the support of our wonderful volunteers, who truly make a difference every day, no matter which role they are fulfilling. Becoming a volunteer crew member is a great chance to play a crucial role in helping to save lives.”

The new crew member is being sought specifically for – but not limited to – the working week, between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Successful applicants will be trained to serve on both the Mersey Class all-weather lifeboat and the D class inshore lifeboat.

For more, visit the station between 10am and 3pm weekdays or go to the RNLI website.
