Mourners honour memory of popular Perth man Adam Pattinson

The funeral of popular Adam Pattinson, who tragically died in a road accident last month, was held yesterday at St Matthew’s Church in Perth.

The Craigclowan teacher and Perthshire RFC star was killed in a collision while cycling to work at the end of February.

Some mourners were unable to squeeze into the Tay Street church, with speakers placed outside broadcasting the service.

Part of the road had been closed off. A statement by Adam’s wife Claire was read out during the service.

She wrote about Adam’s love of teaching: “My goodness you inspired those children, not only with their academic studies but to be the very best versions of themselves.”

Adam was described as “an utterly shining example of a human being”.

Claire added: “I never met anyone who epitomised gentleness and kindness more. You had such a strong sense of self, and boundless energy and an unwavering moral compass which encouraged us to reflect and consider all sides of any story.”

Tributes have continued to be paid to the 36-year-old, including from Craigclowan headmaster John Gilmour.

In his blog, he said: “We often talk about our school community as a family but perhaps we don’t always fully appreciate the extent to which this is true. Since Adam’s death, our family has drawn close and shown just how strong, kind and supportive it is.

“Families, of course, should spend most of their time enjoying the good times and sharing happy moments, however, they also need to be there in the darker times and when things are not so good. The school staff and I have been truly overwhelmed by the support shown to us and our school community by so many people.”
