Relatives and friends keen to see memorial for Keivan following accident

Management at Lochore Meadows Country Park is exploring options for a memorial bench to a young man who died at the Fife beauty spot.

There have been calls for a bench to commemorate Keivan Ulhaq, 20, who passed away in hospital after getting into difficulty while swimming in Loch Ore on Saturday.

Park manager Ian Laing said: “We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Keivan Ulhaq who tragically died following an accident in Loch Ore on Saturday evening.

“Incidents of this type are rare, which perhaps amplifies the sense of shock when they do occur.

“I have been contacted by numerous people who have expressed an interest in having a memorial bench sited in the park for Keivan.

“We would be happy to assist in making that a reality but as a first step we would need to be reassured that this was something that his closest relatives and friends were comfortable with.”

Mr Laing said there were “very few” spaces in the park where a bench could be accommodated and the area near to where Keivan had been swimming could not be used because it is an archaeological site.

Any memorial bench at the park would have to be purchased by friends or relatives, with the cost of installation met by the park.

“We also have a policy of obtaining our benches from a single supplier assuring a high standard of quality and some degree of uniformity throughout the park. I am aware a Just Giving appeal is under way and there may be sufficient capital within that fund.”

He added: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible tragedy at the weekend.

“Signage can be difficult to maintain around large areas of open water but we will ensure all necessary steps are taken to keep the public safe in the park.”
