Getting to know you
Fiona Knowles is a team member with The Sunshine Kitchen in Cupar – here, she shares some insights, including a warning to the captain of the Titanic!
Q Where in the world are you happiest? A Anywhere but I really enjoyed New York and I want to go back.
Q Favourite part of Scotland to explore? A Dundee for the shops as I can get there by bus quite easily.
Q Which musicians, alive or dead, inspire you?
A Ariana Grande. She’s a really successful singer and merchandiser but also inspirational after the Manchester attack.
Q If you had to save one item in a hurry, what would it be?
A My mobile phone.
Q How has lockdown affected you? A Getting skilled at Zoom meetings. More wifi, but I missed seeing my friends.
Q Last meal on Earth? A Anything deep fried or junk food.
Q Dream guests to share a meal with? A Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Hermione from Harry Potter.
Q First thing you’d do if you won £1 million?
A Travel, maybe on a Disney Cruise Ship.
Q If you could rule for a day, what would be the first thing you would do? A Feed all the hungry kids.
Q If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? A Fried onions (just don’t stand behind me!).
Q What was the last book you read? A Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
Q Favourite holiday destination? A Disneyland.
Q What makes you happy? A Talking to my friends.
Q What makes you sad?
A The death of a close family friend.
Q Do you believe in aliens? A No.
Q What was the first album you ever bought?
A Chemistry by Girls Aloud.
Q What is the best advice you have ever received, and who did it come from?
A Don’t eat yellow snow. We go skiing quite often so this is important.
Q What do you do to unwind? A Watch YouTube videos or listen to music.
Q Happiest memory?
A Seeing my cousin when she came back from Australia.
Q And most embarrassing? A Falling asleep on a trampoline at Cairnie Fruit Farm when the classroom assistant was trying to round everyone up to travel home.
Q If you could turn back the clock what one thing would you change?
A I would tell the captain of the Titanic to watch out for icebergs.
Q Biggest regret? A No regrets.
Q What are you proudest of? A Making chocolate brownies at The Sunshine Kitchen (and licking the bowl when washing up).
Q Who do you admire most? A My friend because he manages to do so much even though he is in a wheelchair.
Q And who do you detest? A Donald Trump.
Q Who would you like to thank?
A I would like to thank Gayle and Brenda for everything they do at The Sunshine Kitchen.
Q Could you do essential first aid if you had to?
A I would try. At college we learned how to use defibrillators.
Q Do you give money to beggars? A Sometimes.
Q Where would you rather be right now? A America.
The Sunshine Kitchen in Cupar is a kitchen project for young adults with additional needs who benefit from support in order to be part of a work environment.
The young people develop food products including preserves, baked goods, soups and stovies which they sell on their stall at local farmers’ markets and other community events.
