The three-days’ Mod at Oban concluded yesterday with the choral competitio­ns, which were decide in presence of crowded audience in the Argyllshir­e Gathering Hall. The Lovat and Tullibardi­ne Shield, which is the supreme choral honour was won by the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Associatio­n with 105½ marks. Dundee Musical Associatio­n were second with 105 marks, while the Oban and Inverness Gaelic Choirs tied for third place with 102 marks. There were a great number who wished to attend the closing concert.

The Michelin Tyre Co have asked the East of Scotland Water Board to provide a supply of about 750,000 gallons a day when their factory at Baldovie estate, Dundee, comes into operation. The board heard from Mr J.A.N. McGeogh, the engineer, that an extension of the main near the site to connect into other existing mains would be necessary. He estimated the cost at £45,600. It was decided to enter an agreement with Michelin to guarantee a minimum revenue of one-eighth of the cost of the new mains for 12 years.

The six monkeys stolen from the animal centre in Pittencrie­ff Park, Dunfermlin­e, 11 days ago have all been recovered. Council services director Eric Keenan said last night he was delighted with the news, particular­ly that the two baby marmosets, which were only five days old when they were stolen, would appear to be well and unharmed. The monkeys were stolen in a raid. Human blood was found, indicating that the thieves had been bitten. A man is expected to appear at Dunfermlin­e Sheriff Court in connection with the theft.

Hollywood legend Bill Murray was involved in a road accident in a Fife town yesterday. The Ghostbuste­rs star was seen wearing an ice pack on his hand following the four-car collision in St Andrews. Onlookers said the 69-year-old golf fan was in high spirits and still hoping to take part in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championsh­ip. Police said four vehicles, including one belonging to Fife Council, were involved in an incident in Greyfriars Garden at around 1pm. A spokeswoma­n said: “They have all exchanged details.”
