- PRESS ASSOCIATION

The 2023 Solheim Cup at F inca Cortesin in Spain will take place from September 18-24, a week before the Ryder Cup in Italy.

Spain is staging the prestigious women’s team golf event for the first time in the tournament’s history.

The Solheim Cup and the Ryder Cup are usually scheduled in alternate years, but as a result of the latter being postponed this year there will be two straight weeks of matchplay golf between Europe and the United States in 2023.

Ladies European Tour CEO Ale xandra Armas said: “We are extremely pleased to announce the dates for the upcoming 2023 Solheim Cup and we are excited to have the opportunity to be part of two-week festival of golf.

“The Solheim Cup is truly one of the most dramatic and interesting golf events on the global sporting calendar and it has the ability to transcend golf to new audiences.

“If the 2023 edition is anything like 2019, fans will be left wanting more and they will be lucky enough go straight on to the Ryder Cup in Italy where the men’s version of Team Europe and Team USA will go head to head.”

The upcoming 2021 Solheim Cup will be staged in Toledo, Ohio, between September 4-6, with Team USA aiming to reclaim the trophy they lost on the last green in the final match of the singles at Gleneagles.

Jason Kokrak sunk a a three-foot birdie putt on the 18th to help secure his maiden PGA Tour win in Las Vegas.

The American started the final day in second but reached the turn on five under – including four straight birdies – to put pressure on other high fliers at the CJ Cup.

His final putt on the 18th led to a round of 64 and a score of 20 under for the tournament, his 233rd on the tour.

Xander Schauffele was the best of the rest, and remained in the hunt until he dropped a shot on the par-5 16th to finish on 18 under, a shot ahead of England’s Tyrrell Hatton and overnight leader Russell Henley.

Saturday’s 73 had left Hatton with a hill to climb.
