Dundee attractions forced to shut again
Dundee attractions Discovery Po i n t and Verdant Works have shut again just three months after reopening.
Dundee Heritage Trust made the decision to close immediately shortly after the Scott ish Government said Dundee is to remain in Tier 3.
Both venues had to close earlier in the year due to the UK-wide lockdown and remained closed for four months.
An initial limited reopening on July 17 was followed by a full reopening on August 12.
Bosses have said they will review the closure at the beg inn ing o f December.
Deirdre Robertson, CEO of Dundee Heritage Trust, said: “Sadly the impact on our visitor numbers from the Tier 3 designation for Dundee has been dramatic.
“Following reopening in July we have been overwhelmed by the support of the local community, and indeed those from further afield.
“In these uncertain times things change daily though and n o w, understandably, people are wary of venturing out and this – combined with travel restrictions across the country – has resulted in the very hard choice of temporarily closing once again.”
The initial closure happened during what is traditionally the busiest months of the year for visitor attractions.
Verdant Works and Discover y Point were particularly badly hit by the closure due to the fact Dundee Heritage Trust is an independent charity which is over 98% self-funded.
Ms Robertson added: “These uncertain times really do impact on our hard -work ing and dedicated staff and volunteers.
“I would urge anyone who would like to find out how to support the work we do to visit our websites, online shop or follow us on our social media platforms.”
