Value of industry may soar
Scotland’s dairy industry could be worth £1.4 billion by 2030 – up from £800 million in 2018 – according to Paul Grant, chairman of the Scottish Dairy Growth Board.
Mr Grant was commenting following the publication of a revised strategy for the sector which has called for a focus on encouraging new investment, driving market growth and managing the industry’s response to climate change.
The review coincides with farmers’ co-operative First Milk’s announcement of a £9m investment in cheese and whey processing facilities at their Lake District creamery in Cumbria and £3.5m at their Haverfordwest plant.
