Positive test for pupil at city high school

-

A third-year pupil at Baldragon Academy in Dundee has tested positive for Covid.

Parents who have youngsters at the school received the news in a letter from the head teacher.

In it, Hugh McAninch confirmed the case and said the school remains open.

The letter states: “A case of confirmed Covid-19 has been reported in a person who attends Baldragon Academy in S3.

“The close contacts of this person have been identified by the Health Protection Team at NHS Tayside and must now enter isolation.

“This is a precaution. This isolation is from the date of last contact for 10 days.”

Mr McAninch said parents would have already been notified if their child was a close contact of the affected pupil.

The letter goes on: “Please be assured that if you have not been contacted individually, your child has not been identified as a contact of the case and they can continue to attend school and undertake other activities as normal.”

Mr McAninch said he recognised the news would be concerning for families but added: “Please be reassured that Baldragon Academy remains open.”

Parents who have questions or concerns are urged to contact the Health Protection Team on 01382 598976/987.

A pensioner who drove when he knew it was dangerous has been banned from the road for a year.

George Robertson was also fined £300 after he admitted driving the 13-year-old Audi A3 when he was aware it was “in a bit of a state”.

Robertson was caught driving to the bank in a car which was deemed not to be roadworthy.

Perth Sheriff Court was told the car failed its MOT in April 2020 on five grounds, with one “dangerous” defect and four others considered “major.”

Robertson had baulked at the £1,200 repair bill and ignored the failure, continuing to drive the car despite knowing it was a danger to other road users.

Robertson, 72, from Blairgowrie, admitted driving dangerously by knowingly taking a defective and nonroadworthy car out on to public roads.

He also admitted driving the car on the A923 Coupar Angus to Blairgowrie road on May 29 last year when it had no MOT certificate.

Fiscal depute Sarah Wilkinson told the court Robertson was pulled over when a police check identified the car’s valid MOT had run out in April 2019.

Sheriff Neil Bowie told Robertson: “You knew the car was in a bit of a state when you drove it.

“It was described as dangerous, not just to yourself but other road users.”
