East of Scotland clubs opt to scrap season

-

The East of Scotland League has followed the East Region Juniors in declaring the 2020-21 season null and void after a vote by member clubs.

Following a meeting on Thursday the league had advised that declaring the season over was the favoured decision of the board members but the ultimate decision lay with the clubs between agreeing with the board or restarting the season on May 17 and continuing into June.

EOSL secretary David Baxter announced the result of the vote last night with 29 votes in favour of null and void and 11 votes for restarting.

However, a number of clubs were unhappy that there was not a further option, of ending the season with final positions decided by average points – like the Lowland League – with Dundonald Bluebell general manager Alan Halliday leading calls for the third option to be offered.

Several comments on social media suggested that the result was always going to be for the null and void option.

Following the vote it is expected that next season will begin in mid-July with conferences once again below the Premier League. However, this is to be confirmed with as many as 15 clubs to potentially join the league this summer.
