Brechin City moved to within three points of Highland League leaders Fraserburgh after a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Turriff United at the Haughs last night.

City were in scintillating form in the opening 45 minutes, scoring four goals without reply.

Turriff were, however, far more competitive in the second half and although City enjoyed the lion’s share of pressure and possession they could only add one more goal to their tally.

Andy Kirk’s men got off to the perfect start and grabbed the opener after three minutes when Max Kucheraivyi picked up a loose ball at the edge of the Turriff penalty area and slotted a low drive into the bottom corner.

Brechin doubled their advantage in the 21st minute when veteran skipper Iain Davidson swept home a Kieran Inglis cross.

It was one-way traffic towards the Turriff goal and it was no surprise when City extended their lead six minutes later when Marc Scott fired a superb left-foot drive into the top corner of the net with Julian Wade slotting home a Scott cross a couple of minutes later to make it 4-0.

Turriff tightened up defensively after the break but Jack Milne should have made it 5-0 in the 58th minute when he fired past the post from good position after an Inglis shot had been blocked.

City were still dominating play in terms of pressure and possession but were finding it far more difficult to turn that pressure into goals.

Scott had a half-chance in the 71st minute when he found space in the box but blasted the ball over the bar. City made it 5-0 on the stroke of full-time when a Garry Wood cross was tapped home by substitute David Cox.
