DUNDEE DIG DEEP TO SHARE SPOILS

-

Dundee Wanderers closed out their women’s hockey premier league campaign in fine style.

Short of a goalkeeper and subs, the Dundee outfit dug deep, coming back on three separate occasions to share the honours with Glasgow University.

Hannah Young cancelled out Dara Devine’s opener before Sam Sangster did likewise, exchanging counters with Georgia Smith.

Emily Simmers gave the visitors the lead for a third time but parity was restored when Young released the unmarked Amy Rowan to claim a wellmerited point.

Grove Menzieshill lost 2-0 away to Erskine Stewart’s Melville.

The Dundee outfit must now account for second division runners-up Grange if they hope to retain top league status.

Perthshire’s winning streak in the national league was ended when they went down by a single goal to hosts Kelburne.

St Andrews University edged a 2-1 win over CALA Edinburgh.

In district league catch-ups Grove’s third team won 2-1 over Perthshire III in division 1 while Grove IVs were the high scorers with a 7-0 win over Perthshire III in division 2.

● Scotland’s revamped women’s hockey squad halted hosts Ireland in their tracks with a series win over a three-match programme in Belfast.

The Green Army did manage a victory in yesterday’s closing encounter, but the Tartan Hearts had already claimed two successes.

Sarah Jamieson and Fiona Semple got the Tartan Hearts off to an excellent 2-1 start at Stormont in the opening skirmish.

Ex-Wanderer Charlotte Watson was a prime mover in the game 2 success, with a brace in a 5-1 rout. Former Grove Menzieshill player Katie Robertson was also on the scoresheet.

Ireland prevented a whitewash when they won the final game 6-4.
