Many prominent scientists believed in creation, too

-

Sir, – I refer to a letter in The Courier (May 12) by Nick Cole. He seems to imply that science and creationism are opposed to each other.

In fact many prominent scientists believed in creation including Sir Isaac Newton, Morse, Keppler, Louis Pasteur, Sir Francis Bacon etc. True science is in harmony with scripture. Recent discoveries in genetics and the human genome demonstrate the amazing complexity of life and speak of exquisite design.

Operational science which deals in repeatable experiments is distinct from historical science which is theorising about the past. I agree that belief should not be imposed in the way that the theory of evolution is taught as fact in schools, in further education and the media.

Scientists may adapt their thinking in the light of new discoveries but for many evolutionists the theory must not be questioned and the creation model is not entertained.

As Richard Lewontin said: “Materialism is absolute for we cannot allow a divine foot in the door.”

I am not sure who Mr Cole is referring to when he discusses non-thinking wishful thinkers who impose their views by force. Christ Himself referred to creation and is described as the word of God who made everything.

In answer to his question, who created the creator, no one, God is uncreated and eternal. He suggests that there is no proof of a creator.

I would recommend the Bible as proof of the truth of creation.

These 66 books written by over 40 authors over a period of many hundreds of years form a coherent whole to tell the story of redemption through Christ with many prophecies fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Lord.

Creationists do not ignore counter-arguments. See Creation.com or Answers in Genesis. Evolutionists, whilst accepting the general theory of evolution, disagree among themselves as to how it took place.

I consider that the wishful thinkers are those who wish that God did not exist because they do not want to be accountable to their creator who we must all meet one day as either judge or saviour. Paul Read.
