CLELLAND SHOOTS TO THE TOP AS ITALY STAR
Perthshire’s Lana Clelland has finished as second top scorer this season in Italy’s Women’s Serie A.
She actually scored the most goals from open play, as the league’s leading scorer netted four penalties in her 14 goals.
Lana helped her club side Sassuolo finish fourth.
The Tibbermore girl is at Sassuolo for another season, having previously played in Italy for Bari, Tavagnacco and Fiorentina and in Scotland for Letham girls, St Johnstone Ladies, Spartans and Rangers.
Lana, who has been struck by injuries in the two seasons before the one just ended, is delighted that she took part in 21 games, giving her a goal every two matches ratio.
She is hoping to add to her Scotland cap tally by being included in the squad to play in a World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Poland in June.
Stonehaven-raised Christy Grimshaw has been shortlisted for the MG ALBA SWF Awards’ International Player of the Year after an impressive season for club and country.
The AC Milan star, 26, has established herself in Pedro Martinez Losa’s squad since the summer, scoring two goals in seven appearances under the Spaniard.
Grimshaw, who has nine Scotland caps, has also impressed in her second season with the Rossoneri. She made 17 appearances in Serie A, scoring against Pomigliano C.F. and Roma, as AC Milan finished the season in third place.
But there was also cup heartbreak for Grimshaw, as AC Milan reached the final of the Supercoppa, where she scored but the Rossoneri ultimately lost out to Juventus.
Grimshaw has been shortlisted for the International Player of the Year Award alongside Erin Cuthbert (Chelsea), Caroline Weir (Manchester City) and Claire Emslie (Everton).
