Police launch investigat­ion as man, 27, is ‘seriously assaulted’ in street

A man has been rushed to hospital in Edinburgh after being seriously assaulted in a Kirkcaldy street on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old was attacked on the town’s Charlotte Street shortly after 11pm.

Police sealed off the area around Charlotte Street area – close to Society bar and nightclub – as an investigat­ion got under way.

A section of the Esplanade at Kirkcaldy seafront was also taped off by officers for a time.

An eyewitness said: “There were several police vehicles and the area was closed off. There was significan­t... activity in Charlotte Street and an ambulance at the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “Officers received a report of a 27-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Charlotte Street in Kirkcaldy around 11.20pm on Saturday May 28. The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he remains in a stable condition.

“Officers are following a positive line of inquiry.”
