Reds’ conditions as Bayern look to grab their Mane man

-

Liverpool are adamant Sadio Mane will be allowed to leave only for a fee in excess of £25 million – providing they have a suitable replacement lined up – after the forward was heavily linked with Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga champions, who themselves look likely to lose striker Robert Lewandowski this summer, have yet to even make contact with the Reds about any potential deal.

But the day after their Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid, reports have suggested the Senegal international wants to move to Germany before the end of his current contract, which has 12 months remaining.

It is understood the 30-year-old has also not yet made his intentions clear to the club he joined from Southampton for £30m six years ago.

But having allowed his contract to tick down to the final 12 months, the likelihood of signing a new one looks less likely, despite him scoring 23 goals this season.

Mane had hinted on Wednesday he would announce a “special” decision on his long-term plans after the Champions League final with Real Madrid but after the 1-0 defeat at the Stade de France, the forward did not make an appearance in front of the media.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about the Bayern rumours at his pre-match press conference in Paris and his answer was rather non-committal.

“Wherever Sadio will play next year, he will be a big player,” said the Reds boss.

Mane is not the only contract issue Liverpool have to resolve this summer as fellow forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino – who make up the rest of his famed front three – are also entering their final 12 months.

Klopp vowed to bounce back and “go again” next season after the end of a mammoth campaign.

“These boys played an outstanding season,” said

Klopp, whose side went on a parade through Liverpool yesterday.

“The two competitions we couldn’t win, we didn’t for the smallest possible margin: one point, 1-0.

“City during the season, they were one point better and tonight Madrid was one goal better. That says nothing about us. The difference between 2018 and now is that I see us coming again.

“In 2018, I wished it but I couldn’t know, but these boys are really competitive, they have an incredible attitude. It is a fantastic group. We will go again definitely.

“Tomorrow we will celebrate the season. It is good we don’t have to do that immediately but after a night’s sleep and maybe another speech from me, the boys will realise how special it was what we did.

“Even if nobody on this planet would understand (why) we have a parade we still will do it.

“I really hope everybody has a chance to get to Liverpool tomorrow to celebrate together with us a fantastic season that didn’t end as we wanted.

“That’s fact but the club is in a good moment, we will go again.

“We could have played better football but Real Madrid could have played better football but they didn’t and Madrid won anyway.”
