Quirky milk bar serves up star specials

- AMIE FLETT

The Horn Milk Bar in Perthshire has played host to yet another film crew as the A90 pit-stop diner continues its rise as an unlikely production location.

Scottish band Logan’s Close were recently spotted at the restaurant filming a music video for their latest album, Heart Shaped Jacuzzi.

Despite the cost-of-living crisis impacting businesses widely across the UK, The Horn has found a little bit of Hollywood in its quirky diner – or “Hornwood” as owner Kenny Farquharson describes it – that has given it another business venture to thrive in.

Last year, the popular diner near Errol was used as the set for five movies and TV shows, including a Disney+ series.

Kenny said: “This is the second music video set we’ve hosted this year as we had a London-based band last month and we’ve got more things in the pipeline for the next few months. Things seem to be gravitating towards us and it’s good support for our business too.

“We just get these random phone calls and we try to accommodate the best we can.

“Usually we just shut up the gate and open the doors to these guys and let them do their thing.”

Kenny’s teenage daughter Gabi has had a taste of stardom through the diner’s success, after featuring as a waitress in various productions.

Kenny said: “In the last couple of years we’ve really blown up and we’re getting more and more people interested.

“We were used for the set of five film locations last year alone and we’ve also had cook-offs filmed here in the past.

“The restaurant even featured in Vogue a few years back and now we’re doing music videos.”

He added: “I think people are drawn to us because we’re unique and quirky.

“The Scottish film industry is so small, I think word just gets around about us.”

Kenny said he never expected the restaurant to become so popular.

“We never saw it coming – we just sell bacon rolls,” Kenny said. “My mum and dad started off with a wee tartan shed in the 1960s and now we’ve been on television.

“In this day and age, when hospitality is getting a kicking, it’s good to have something a little different.”

Logan’s Close manager Brian Ewing said the band chose The Horn because of its “iconic” and “vintage” feel.

He said: “We spotted the restaurant literally just through driving past Perth and seeing the cow – it’s so iconic and it’s hard to miss.

“We wanted to go with this vintage feel especially as the band go for a nostalgic feel in their music – and obviously because of their world-famous bacon rolls.

“We knew we wouldn’t find anything like that unless we travelled to America.”
