Lothian and Peeblesshire District – Euan Pettigrew. The winner of the best live weight gain of 1.45 was Lothian and Borders young farmer Alexander Cook, Kinneil Farm. The bullock sold at 532kg, having gained 234kg in 161 days.
He sold to £1,670 showing a 94% profit of £810.
61 Young Farmers calves averaged £1,430.
United Auctions also held a show and sale of 1,000 store cattle.
The champion and reserve came from well-known breeder Hugh Dunlop, Holehouse at Ochiltree. The champion was a Belgian Blue sired by An De Beauffaux and the reserve a Charolais cross heifer, by Glenrock Iga.
