Saints Women fall to late penalty at ’Muir

-

St Johnstone Women suffered another narrow defeat in SWPL2 when they were defeated 3-2 away to Boroughmuir Thistle in Edinburgh.

Olivia Hurrell and Ellie May Cowie went close for Saints before Fiona Gibson netted for the home team in 15 minutes.

Elvie McLean and Hurrell set up Cowie to level after half an hour before Beth McLean restored Boroughmuir’s lead.

Hurrell levelled in 70 minutes but, seven minutes from the end, Saints keeper Bobby Cochran impeded Emily Arthur and Mhairi Smith netted Boroughmuir’s winner from the spot.

The SWF Championship saw Dryburgh Athletic Women beat Greenock Morton 3-0 at the Quest Arena in Dundee.

Rebecca Lonie netted Dryburgh’s opener in the first half and it wasn’t until late in the second period that club captain Laura Boag scored the second before Daisy

Hutchison bagged the third.

Meanwhile, Forfar Farmington are still in with a slight chance of SWF League One title glory. The Station Park outfit, however, remain three points behind Stenhousemuir in second after a 2-0 home win against Edinburgh Caledonia thanks to a second-half double from Claire Hendry.

The Angus side must hope Stenny lose to Edinburgh Caledonia next Sunday before they face Bonnyrigg Rose the following week with a formidable +12 goal difference to make up.

Stenny need only one point from their remaining match to lift the trophy after beating Falkirk 6-0.

Elsewhere in League One, Airdrie Ladies ran riot against Dundee West, winning 9-3.

In SWFL East Dunfermline Athletic moved into third with a 7-0 win over Edinburgh University Thistle.
