Howe’ s star treatment

-

The girls from Howe Harlequins youth section had a training session with a difference this week when they got to learn from Scotland prop Pierre Schoeman.

Edinburgh Rugby teamed up with Scottish Building Society to bring junior players from Howe of Fife, Huntly, Falkirk and Boroughmuir to Hive Stadium for a bespoke workout under the guidance of Schoeman, with fellow international caps Glen Young and Sarah Denholm also helping out along with up-and-coming hooker Harri Morris.

Becky Smith from Howe Harlequins said: “We had girls from age 12 to age 17 attending and there were 22 girls there in total.

“I entered the competition when I saw it on the Edinburgh Rugby Facebook page and then got an email saying we had won along with three other Scottish youth teams.

“All of the top-level players were so good with the girls and they really enjoyed their session and you could really see their confidence growing over the time they were there.

“It was a great experience for the girls to get to train on the pitch at the Hive Stadium where Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland Women play and, after the session, there was time for all of the girls to get autographs and selfies with all of the players and they really enjoyed this

“The players were so patient and took time to talk to all of the girls.

“It was just such a positive experience and really inspired the girls to think about where their rugby can take them in the future. I’m sure it will be a day they will remember for years to come.”

Meanwhile, the Perthshire Sevens takes place tomorrow at North Inch.

Run alongside the Perth Beer Festival, there is always a big crowd on the day. As well as the men’s and women’s sevens events, there will be a veterans 10s, too, in a real festival of rugby.
