Political graffiti vandals hit again

-

POLITICAL GRAFFITI vandals yesterday targeted an Angus leisure spot for the second time in a month.

Foul messages were daubed across the gates of Victoria Park in Arbroath in the early hours of the morning.

Red paint covered almost every surface of the freshlypainted stone pillars, with slogans including, “No More Wars”, “No More Borders” “No More Slavery” and “Government Is Monkey Business”.

Chairman of the 45 Commando Veterans’ Association, Stuart Lavery (64), discovered the graffiti at about 6am while walking his dog past the park.

He said: “This is the second time it has been done by the same people.

“I saw a couple of people standing beside the pillars and when I shouted at them they just got in the car and drove away.

“I don’t think they sprayed it, it looked like they were just reading it.

“I think they should put up CCTV cameras opposite the old coast guard station to catch them.

“We have cameras all over the rest of the town, so there is no reason they couldn’t put them up there.

“It is costing the taxpayer money every time and eventually it will just stop being repainted.”

Councillor D av i d Fairweather said anyone who may have witnessed the latest act of vandalism should contact the police immediately.

He added: “It def ies belief that these mindless vandals continue to use Arbroath’s biggest park to make their point.”

Officers were called to the park on Sunday July 15 when the pillars were first hit.

On that occasion red and blue paint was used on the white stone pillars, including the phrases “No More F*** Oil’’, “Save Our Planet’’ and “Revolution Is Now’’.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed any of the crimes to contact them on on 0300 111 2222 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
