Broons in a jam

-

SCOTLAND’S MOST famous cartoon family are about to be embroiled in their stickiest situation yet as they lend their names to a new line of jam.

The Broons will bring a flavour of Auchenshoogle to supermarkets nationwide after linking up with Arbroath-based f irm Mackays.

Maw Broon has allowed her famous recipes for jams, marmalades and chutney to be used by the company, giving the world a taste of life from her Glebe Street kitchen.

The range is the result of a tie-up between DC Thomson, publishers of The Courier, and Mackays, with the Broons set to appear in a special Sunday Post comic strip where they visit the Mackays factory.

In keeping with a fam- ily whose antics have been enjoyed for generations, the range of preserves will be made the traditional way.

Martin Grant, managing director of Mackays, said: “We are proud to be one of the few remaining preserve and marmalade manufacturers to still use the traditional copper pan method of jammaking, which gives our preserves and marmalades their homemade taste.

“We really enjoyed working with DC Thomson and Maw Broon herself to create this special range.”

Maw is said to have cast a watchful eye as the first batches were produced.

She said: “A’ the Broon clan liked my jams. The jar would get passed doon the table, one tae another.

“Mind, you usually had tae open a new jar after it had been tae Daphne.”
