STARTHMORE AND PERTHSHIRE LEAGUE AND EAST LEAGUE CRICKET

-

when they face a trip to a resurgent Strathmore tomorrow.

They did lose at Mannof ield last weekend though, and with Dundee having beaten Gordonians at Countesswells on Saturday by six wickets then at Dalnacraig on Sunday having walloped the Caledonian Academy XI by 150 runs, they will not be short of confidence.

Aware that this is probably the final throw of the dice, Perth Doo’cot take on Mannofield at Doo’cot Park looking to repeat their eight wicket win earlier in the season.

Both sides scored more than 200 runs last week and another high scoring encounter is in prospect, particularly with last week’s two centurians, Paul Tramantanos for the home side and Mark Stewart for the visitors, in opposition.

Arbroath will also be looking to do a double over Stoneywood Dyce when they turn up at Lochlands, and although they still have that outside chance of winning the league, the situation for Stoneywood is decidedly more ominous as they sit second bottom with only the winless Caledonian Academy below them.

Having put Stoneywood Dyce to the sword last week by eight wickets, Huntly face a Forthill side coming off a seven wicket defeat at Arbroath and this one is only a joust to improve their respective mid-table places as the season draws to a close but for Meigle their trip to Arrowdawn Gordonians is more significant since a win would virtually ensure that Stoneywood Dyce cannot overtake them from bottom spot.

Glenrothes can look at the Baillie and Gifford East League Division 1 table and reckon that they deserve to be top having played, and won, 40% of their season’s league matches.

The win over Marchmont by 73 runs on Saturday, then the 117 run victory over ERA on Sunday, gives them a five from five record.

Although they only won by 13 runs earlier in the season against Saturday’s opponents MDAFS, they now prop up the table, and ‘Rothes will go there all guns blazing.

After last week’s win over Carlton 2, Largo will take on Musselburgh at home confident that they can turn round the result at Musselburgh, where they lost by five wickets.

Musselburgh have gone off the boil and offered up MDAFS only their second win of the season last week when they were well short chasing a total of 160, so the Largo roll could continue as they look to widen the gap between themselves and MDAFS at the bottom.

Dunfermline got the better of third-placed Holy Cross last week in a low scoring match and travel to Watsonians 2 determined to reverse the 66 run loss they experienced against the Edinburgh outfit at McKane Park earlier in the season and perhaps even pull themselves up into third spot in the table.
