A HISTORIC Highland Games show that has taken place within the impressive grounds of Cortachy Castle since the turn of the last century certainly knows the recipe for a successful event.

A fun day out for all, families love it. There are many displays and activities to suit every taste including children’s races, fancy dress competitions, flower and industrial shows and competitions, traditional heavy events, tug of war, highland dancing, a piping competition, photographic competition, a dog show and a somewhat chaotic dog race!

The event’s climax is the famous duck race down the River South Esk, and the games close with a great auction of much of the produce exhibited in the main marquee.

Cortachy Castle, which dates back to the 16th century, lies at the heart of the Airlie Estates. These estates consist of over 30,000 acres, largely in Glens Clova, Prosen and Moy and include Cortachy and Airlie Castles, which have been in the Ogilvy family at least 700 years.

There are a number of events during the day including baking, flowers, fruit, vegetables and photography and many are open to all. Details of classes are available in the show schedule and entries must be in the show tent by 9.30am on the day.

A variety of stalls including those with local homemade choices and other food and refreshments including Aberdeen Angus beef burgers, Visocchi’s ice cream and a bar are all on site.

The annual raffle has once again amazing prizes ranging from four cash prizes of £50 each, to a limited edition canvas donated by Jack MacDonald Paintings, B&B for two at the Glen Clova Hotel, and lunch or dinner for four at the Drovers Inn.

The event commences at 1pm. For more information, phone: 01575 550305 or visit:
