The Doghouse Roses, Katarina Juvancic and Dejan Lepanja Links Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose August 14 at 8pm THE NEW season at Montrose Folk Club commences with a singer/songwriter double bill. Glasgow-based Doghouse Roses are Paul Tasker, on guitar and various stringed instrument­s, with Iona MacDonald, whose vocals have been compared to those of Sandy Denny and Gillian Welch. They are touring Scotland in August with Katarina Juvancic and Dejan Lepanja who, although from Slovenia, sing in English. The Angus Writers’ Circle Rosely Hotel, Forfar Road, Arbroath August 15, 7.30pm-10pm MEMBERS OF the Angus Writers’ Circle will welcome Anne Downie, the wellknown Scottish actress and writer to their meeting on August 15. Anne Downie will be judging the circle’s August competitio­n, a General Short Story. A talented actress, Mrs Downie has appeared in TV production­s such as Taggart, Glasgow Kiss and High Road. She has also appeared in the Widows of Clythe in Dundee Repertory Theatre. Trevor Gordon: Northern Monsters The Meffan Gallery West High Street, Forfar Until September 1 SCULPTOR TREVOR Gordon has a fascinatio­n for storytelli­ng, concealed truths and the fragile facades of modern life. His work deals with surface detail that often conceals monstrosit­y. He places sculptures that have an unearthly quality in familiar domestic environmen­ts with the intention to disturb the viewer into creating their own narratives. Dunkeld Art Exhibition The Duchess Anne Hall, The Cross, Dunkeld Until August 30 FOR OVER 40 years, the Dunkeld Art Exhibition has been running for 10 weeks every summer to raise money for the upkeep of Dunkeld Cathedral. Artists from all over the UK show paintings, prints and sculptures and the exhibition attracts some 10,000 visitors each year. The exhibition takes over the 19th century Gothic Parish Hall, the Duchess Anne Hall, which provides an attractive venue for some 400 works of art at any one time. The Exhibition changes daily. Burrelton Market on The Green The Village Green, Burrelton August 11, 2-5pm BURRELTON AND Woodside Hall committee are holding their annual Market on The Green. The market will be opened this year by Carole Baxter of TV’s Beechgrove Garden. She will also host a question time for gardeners. There will be the usual stalls and attraction­s including pony rides, facepainti­ng, crafts and jewellery and much more. Thomson Leng musical society is holding open auditions for this year’s pantomime production of Jack and the Beanstalk. The youth theatre group provides its young members the opportunit­y to express and develop their acting, singing and dance skills on stage and within the local community.
