THE PEAT Inn near St Andrews has added a top- 50 spot in the Good Food Guide to its growing list of accolades.

Run by chef Geoffrey Smeddle and his wife Katherine since 2006, the restaurant with rooms was AA Restaurant of the Year in 2010 and boasts an Eat Scotland gold award and a five-star gold award from VisitScotland.

As if that was not enough, it has also shot to No 32 in the list of Britain’s top restaurants.

Mr Smeddle was delighted to be ranked alongside such esteemed c o m p a ny as Heston B l u m e n t h a l ’s three Michelin-starred the Fat Duck, which held on to the number one spot, and Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume.

“It’s amazing to find the name of our restaurant in a list with such prestigious names,” he said.

“It’s an achievement to not just make it on to the list, but make it to a really solid mid-table position.

“For us to make it into the top 50 is also a boost for business, especially at a time when businesses are experiencing challenging conditions.

“We’ve got an amazing team and the key word is dedication. Everyone works hard as a team and that has paid off.”

He added: “What we want is to give people an experience which is special, but do that in surroundings which are relaxed and friendly.

“In terms of food, what we aim to deliver is food which is not just seasonal but is delivered with a level of technical skill which will hopefully impress and be exciting to the customer.”
