No sting in this tale

“I MAY be tempting fate,” says a Dundee reader, “but am I right in thinking that we haven’t seen as many wasps around as normal this year?

“Perhaps it’s because we haven’t been able to sit out in the garden as often, but I’m not aware of having been bothered quite so much by them.” from Angus Railway Group and Angus Council to research and develop a project to bring the old railway to life in the form of a model with supporting commentary on what is a significant piece of Angus history.

The group has already built a model of Monifieth as it was between 1930-1960, which has received critical acclaim since its installation in Monifieth Library.

Initial investigation has identified many surviving artefacts along the route of the line eg. remains of former stations, entrance gates and sections of bridges some of which are still in use carrying road traffic.

After meeting local residents living near the route, John Grant, Oral History Co-ordinator, thinks that there may be items of historical interest lying forgotten in lofts, hedgerows and gardens, which could form a collection that of cultural, educational and tourist interest.

The group is keen to meet those with memories or photographs of the route, those with artefacts and those who would be happy to add their memories to the group’s growing collection of recorded oral history.

On September 13, the group will be giving a presentation about their activities
