Happy Lee bags a double
HAMILTON HAD to pass a 1pm inspection before getting the green light, and one jockey who was happy it went ahead was Graham Lee, who bagged a double and scooped the feature race to boot.
Lee, who got his halfcentury at Ripon on Tuesday, hasn’t looked back since switching codes to the flat at the beginning of the season.
Jim Goldie has been a good ally for Lee and they teamed up to take the feature Scottish Trophy Handicap on Another For Joe (11-4 jt fav).
He was busy buying new recruits at Doncaster, but his son George was on duty and he said: “My dad has been on the phone and he has bought one so we will see how he looks when he gets home.”
“Things are going well again, but we had a quiet spell mid season and Graham has given him a good ride.”
He had earlier taken the opening two-year-old maiden when the Ann Duff ield-trained Willie The Whip (6-4 fav) romped to an eight-length success.
Jim and jockey Tom Eaves also went onto bag a double when A Southside Boy (12-1) ground out a three-quarter length winner in the 1m 4f handicap.
Keith D a l g l e i s h ’s Windygoul Lad (12-1) came with a wet sail under Andrew Mullen to take the 6f handicap by a neck from the front running La Salida (6-1).
The winning trainer’s brother and assistant, Kevin, said: “We were a bit concerned about the ground. He has run on soft before but nothing as bad as this but he battled well.”
Haajes (7-4f) justified favouritism in the 5f claimer scoring by two and a quarter lengths.
