Havana Gold can gain deserved compensation following a luckless trip to France by claiming the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury.

Richard Hannon’s colt had just taken up the running in a listed race at Deauville when his saddle slipped and Ryan Moore was dumped on to the floor.

Moore escaped unharmed, but he was not so lucky when he fell at Warwick last week and is currently on the sidelines.

Richard Hughes steps back in for the ride, having ridden the colt to victory at Ascot in July, and can benefit from Moore’s bad luck — just as he looks like doing in the race to be champion jockey. SALISBURY 4.30 Hail Promenader, 5.00 Emell, 5.30 Russian Royale, 6.05 Noble Bull, 6.35 HAVANA GOLD (NAP), 7.10 Little Dutch Girl, 7.40 Astra Hall.

DOUBLE: HAVANA GOLD and EMELL.

The juvenile who chased him home at Ascot won his own listed race at Deauville so his form has been franked, while the stablemate he beat on debut, Pearl Acclaim, ran well in the Gimcrack, having won his previous two starts.

Hannon and Hughes should also be on the mark with EmEll in the first division of the Bathwick Tyres MaidenAuction Stakes.

Fourth at Windsor on debut, he was sent off odds-on for his next start at Brighton and looked sure to score when bursting clear, but the one-mile trip found him out.

Back over six furlongs, he should have no trouble opening his account.
