Fife Flyers chief pushing bosses to bring in import

-

AMBITIOUS FIFE Flyers playcaller Todd Dutiaume revealed yesterday that he is pushing his bosses hard to recruit another import.

And he declared: “I’ll keep pushing.”

The news comes following Monday’s shock departure of experienced import duo Bobby Chaumont and Ryan Campbell from Braehead Clan.

Dutiaume would not be drawn on the axed pair, who have been linked with the Fife club, but confirmed he is always trawling the world market for talent.

He admitted that his line-up quickly gets thin if the club suffer an injury to a key player.

Dutiaume’s assistant Danny Stewart was taken to hospital after being hit near the boards early in the third period on Tuesday, which meant that home-based players had to step-up.

The former Newcastle Vipers boss will be assessed ahead of this weekend’s double-header at home to bottom club Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday and away to Sheffield Steelers on Sunday.

Dutiaume, who missed Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by arch rivals Dundee CCS Stars, rose from his sick bed to help Flyers snap a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 home victory over Hull Tuesday.

The welcome win — only their third in 13 games — lifted the Kirkcaldy club off the bottom of the Elite League table, leaving Edinburgh propping up the league.

Dutiaume said: “I felt pretty rough over the weekend, having caught a sickness bug which hit the whole family.

“Monday was the first time I was able to eat anything and I had a little skate before the game.

“I felt better as the game went on but I still feel a little of the bug.

“Now Danny is hurt. It’s not as bad as it looked but we get thin quickly and at the weekend we were down to eight imports.

“We’ll see how Danny is before the weekend and that could leave us with eight again.

“I’m pushing hard for another guy. The answer has been no so far but I’m always looking, keeping my finger on the pulse.

“We are competitive in the division but one more guy would really help. I cannot magic a guy in and I’ll keep pushing until I get the green light from management.”
