JUNIOR Football
Overhead conditions couldn’t have been better on Saturday afternoon, but that still could not prevent a blank day for all
Courier Country clubs, writes our junior football correspondent.
Indeed in the whole of East Region only two games were played.
In by far the most important, Linlithgow Rose’s 4-0 win at Musselburgh saw the Super League leaders open up a 12-point lead over second placed Bo’ness, who have two games in hand.
Tommy Coyne bagged a double with goals from Stuart McArthur and Gordon Herd making it a comfortable victory for Mark Bradley’s men who remain unbeaten.
Musselburgh finished the game with nine men.
Dalgety Bay apart, at least this week the artificial surfaces were playable allowing several clubs to see friendly action.
After the fourth call off of their Emirates Cup tie with Penicuik, Kelty Hearts met Kirkcaldy YM at Cupar where the sides shared four goals. Sean O’Neil and Gregg Meikle were the YM scorers with Conrad Courts scoring both goals for the Super League side.
On the same pitch immediately afterwards, Dundonald Bluebell shocked Premier League Dundee Violet, coming back from a goal down at the break to win 5-1.
The Moorside men trailed to a Bryan Duell penalty at the break, but a Stuart Walton double and goals from Tommy Carr, Calum Young and Craig Morrison earned the Central League outfit an unexpectedly emphatic victory.
Riverside in Dundee also staged two games.
A Gary Muckersie strike gave North End a 3-2 win over Lochee United in what was rated an excellent exercise by both sides, though neither were anything like full-strength.
Meanwhile, Kirrie Thistle drew 1-1 with Broughty for whom Sean Kelly grabbed a late leveller after Ross Lunan’s opener two minutes from the interval.
Meanwhile Tayport hit Lochee Harp for six without reply at the DISC.
On target for Port were Simon Murray and Jake Mair with doubles, Kenny McCulley and Stephen Tront.
The other game took place at the North Inch Campus, Perth where Blairgowrie came from behind with two late goals to win 2-1.
An own goal with 15 minutes left cancelled out Jordan Brown’s penalty opener for Thistle after 10 minutes and Paul Maloney hit Blair’s
winner time. five minutes from RESULTS
