Black Watch soldier admits assaulting his wife

A SERVING Black Watch soldier admitted assaulting his wife in a Perth pub.

Mark Wilkinson pleaded guilty when he appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday.

The 35-year-old was charged with pulling his wife of 14 years by the hair, grabbing her arm and throwing a glass bottle at her in That Bar on February 7.

He admitted assaulting her at an address in Strathtay Road on the same date.

Depute f iscal Stuart Richardson told the court Mrs Wilkinson had gone to the pub with friends when the accused appeared.

He was ejected by bar staff but had not calmed down by the time his wife got home, and continued the assault.

Solicitor David Sinclair, defending, said Wilkinson was “disgusted” by his actions and had temporaril­y moved into Redford Bar racks in Edinburgh, but the couple hoped to continue their relationsh­ip.

Sheriff David Hall deferred sentence until March 12 for reports.

A man has appeared in private at Perth Sheriff Court accused of rape.

A petition alleges Colin Gettler, 25, of Rannoch Road, Perth, bit a woman on her body before raping her at an address in Perthshire on February 2.

He entered no plea or declaratio­n and the case was continue. Bail was granted.
