River search resumed

-

DIVING TEAMS from Police Scotland yesterday continued efforts to locate a body seen in the River Tay.

A search by specialist teams from the Coastguard and ScottishFire andRescue Service failed to recover any remains on Sunday.

They were stood down at 9.30pm and work resumed at first light yesterday.

The search concentrated on the Shore Road area of Perth, close to Moncreiffe Island, where the reported body was last seen.

Specialist officers used kayaks but their efforts were hampered by a morning of heavy rain which kept river levels high during the day.

Off icers from Police Scotland’s Tayside Division continued inquiries to establish if any missing people have been reported.

This is the second time in seven months that the River Tay has been the focus of significant search efforts.

The body of 16-yearold Mateusz Wilamowski, who went missing in July, was recovered near to Woody Islands in Perth’s North Muirton area after 30 people searched the river intensively for three days.

Meanwhile, in Pitlochry, the search for a missing pensioner has concentrated on the River Tummel.

William Elder, 81, has not been seen since December 10 last year and there are fears he may have fallen into the water and been swept away. River levels in the area have been high after recent heavy rainfall.
