‘Breach’ of Starr’s rights
Lawyers for comedian Freddie Starr have accused Scotland Yard of “a flagrant breach” of his human rights by leaving him on bail as part of a “policy” decision.
Dean Dunham, who represents the 71-yearold, claimed the Met had decided to push back his bail until May while PR guru Max Clifford’s trial over unconnected allegations continues.
Mr Dunham said: “Freddie Starr was due to answer police bail on April 1 2014. This would have been the ninth re-bail date during what has so far been an 18-month period of being on police bail.
“To re-bail Freddie in these circumstances is frankly wrong and is a flagrant breach of his human rights.”
Starr, from Warwickshire, was first arrested over alleged sexual offences in November 2012. He has not been charged with any offence.
