Dambusters grounded

THANKS TO the classic film and its instantly-recognisable theme tune, there is no chance of 617 Squadron ever being truly consigned to history.

The famous Dambusters were disbanded amid suitably solemn scenes for the third time yesterday as part of the drawdown of the RAF’s Tornado force.

Thankfully they will return in 2018 under the guise of the first Lightning II Squadron. They are gone, for now, but never forgotten.
