THE LAST three games between Montrose and Elgin have certainly been entertaining, producing a total of 17 goals.

However, Gable Endies boss Stuart Garden admits he would settle for a gritty 1-0 win today as theAngus side continue to chase their promotion play-off dream.

Montrose secured a 2-2 draw at Stirling last weekend, a result that left them still sitting three points behind the fourth-placed Binos.

Now, Garden is hoping his side can close the gap with a win over Elgin this afternoon.

The manager said: “We maybe rode our luck a little last week. The first half was dull but in the second, after they went 1-0 up, we responded well and scored a good goal through PaulWatson.

“They then went right up the park and scored and I couldn’t help thinking it wasn’t going to be our day.

“The lads, though, kept right at it and I always thought we looked likely to score and we did through a penaltywhich, tobehonest, was on the soft side .

“We obviously would have liked to have won but it was still a good point and keeps us right in contention.

“Results elsewhere went our way and we are still just three points from the play-off spots.”

Calum Ferguson will definitely miss the match through injury while Scott Johnson is rated no better than 50/50 but will be given a late fitness test.
