Cowden look to stop Accies’ title charge

-

S E C O N D - B OT T O M Cowdenbeath look for a second win in a row and a second win of the season over title-chasing Hamilton Accies when the teams meet at Central Park.

Blue Brazil boss Jimmy Nicholl may just have a surprise up his sleeve as he has brought in a trialist striker on the recommendation of an agent and he could go straight into his side to face the Accies.

He said: “An agent I know and trust well has set us up with a new player but I do not want to give too much away.

“I cannot give too much away anyway as the lad does not speak much English but what I can say is that he was with Benfica earlier in his career.

“The footage I have seen looks good and it may well be worth a gamble for the rest of the season.”

A striker that the New Douglas Park side do know well could also f e a t u re as Ka n e Hemmings is over his hamstring problem, with Nicholl adding: “Kane was on the bench in midweek but we decided to keep him in reserve for this one.”

Nicholl’s side gave themselves fresh hope of avoiding the relegation play-offs by defeating doomed Morton 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Nicholl said: “It was far from the greatest game of football you will ever see but we got the job done.

“It was a real boost after a spell of disappointing results and it would be terrific to build on that with a win over a good Hamilton side.

“We need to be wary of them for the entire game as they have popped up with late winners in two games in a row now.

“They have a battling spirit as we know only too well as we were four goals up the last time we played them and had to settle for a 4-3 win.”

Nicholl will be minus James Fowler, who has returned to Kilmarnock at the end of his loan spell, as well as the injured Darren Brownlie and KennyAdamson.
