Fishy goings on at charity shop

-

STUNNED SHOPPERS were stopped in their tracks at the weekend when a mermaid appeared in the window of a Crieff shop.

S h ay n a McLean donned an £800 latex tail and posed in the window of the town’s Cancer Research UK store when volunteers held an event with a Mother’s Day theme at the shop on Saturday.

Perth College student Shayna is a member of underwater performing group Scottish Mers.

Far from appearing to be a fish out of water, she entertained shoppers with a storytelling session.

Afterwards, youngsters were allowed to have their photograph taken with her.

Ahead of her stint in the window, the 18-year-old said: “I love swimming and love making a giant splash but I’m really looking forward to being on dry land in the Cancer Research UK window and telling all the children at the fun day about mermaids.

“I’m sure it will all go swimmingly.”

The shop, wh i c h celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, has taken in more than £2 million since opening in 1989.

Cancer Research UK is the only charity fighting all 200 types of cancer and relies on money raised through its shops to fund its life-saving research into the disease.
