Best bargains for Britons on city breaks are to be found in Budapest, while those watching the pennies would be better off avoiding Boston, USA.

Of 25 leading cities, Budapest proved the best value for a couple on a two-night trip including accommodation, sightseeing and local transport fares, according to a Post Office travel money survey.

The whole package came to just £117 in Budapest, with Vilnius in Lithuania the next cheapest city.

In contrast, Boston in Massachusetts proved the most expensive, with costs of £412 for a typical twonight stay, with New York the next most expensive destination at £366.
