THE GYMNA STS Max Whitlock and Rebecca Tunney were crowned British champions at Liverpool’s EchoA rena.

Double Olympic medallist Whitlock, who won the English title earlier this month, finished with an allaround score of 89.000 to defend his British title and beat Dan Purvis into silver with 87.200, while Dan Keatings won bronze with 87.050.

Teenager Tunney, who was the youngest member of Team GB at London 2012, won the women’s competitio­n with a score of 56.750 across their four pieces of apparatus, ahead of Beckie Downie (56.350) and first year senior Claudia Fragapane (55.700).

The championsh­ips form the last trials for Commonweal­th Games selection.
