NOVA K D J O KOV I C came out on top in the battle between the leading two players in the world as he defeated Rafael Nadal last night to claim the Sony Open in Miami.

Djokovic produced a clinical performanc­e as he defeated world no 1 Nadal 6-3 6-3.

The Serbian won three of his four break points in the match, while Nadal failed to make the most of his one and only chance to break as Djokovic clinched victory in one hour and 24 minutes before celebratin­g wildly.

SerenaWill­iams successful­ly saw off Li Na with a straight-sets victory to win the Sony Open title for a seventh time in Miami.

The 32-year-old world no 1, who recovered to knock out Maria Sharapova in their semi-final clash on Thursday, claimed a 7-5 6-1 triumph over her Chinese opponent in just under two hours.

William held off Li, who took a 5-2 lead in the first set, before the A merican fought back to win it 7-5.

TheA merican carried her momentum into the second set, leaving the world No 2 struggling as the eventual winner took 11 of the last 12 games to seal the victory.
