Fitting location for song of war
MEMBERS OF Pitlochry and District Choral Society gave a stunning outdoor rendition of a new work by Perthshire composer Graham Robb.
They gathered at the War Memorial in Pitlochry for an unaccompanied performance of the work, entitled Along the Brittle Treacherous Bright Street.
Inspired by the words of the American poet EE Cummings, it is part of Mr Robb’s song cycle, Songs of War, Life and Love, which was specially written for the society.
The composition will be performed in its entirety for the first time by the members as part of their First World War-themed concert in Pitlochry Parish Church on SundayApril 13.
Mr Robb has enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years, most notably with his short opera Flora and the Prince, which premiered at the Carnegie Hall In New York in 2012.
It tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s escape from the Duke of Northumberland’s troops following the battle of Culloden and the composer is currently expanding it into a full opera. The next meeting of Kinross Community Council is tomorrow at 7.30pm in the Masonic Hall, Muirs, Kinross.
