FEW OFFICIALS of the Highland Railway Company can have a longer record than that of John Grant, stationmaster at Pitlochry, whose resignation has just been accepted and whose retiral will take place on June 1 after 51 years’ service. Mr Grant is a native of Morayshire and joined the Company as a clerk in Forres in 1863, just prior to the opening of the through line from Perth to Inverness. He has worked in Forres, Inverness, Dingwall and then Pitlochry where he has been for 25 years. Mr Grant is an elder in Pitlochry Established Church.
