Mixedfortunes forScotland’s international curlingteams

THERE WERE mixed fortunes for the Scottish men yesterday at the CPT World Men’s Curling Championship in Beijing.

They won their early game against Switzerland 10-9 to post their first victory of the event, but later went down by 6-7 to Denmark, a result that leaves them at the bottom of the 12-team table, alongside Russia.

Scottish skip Ewan MacDonald said: “We were absolutely robbed against Denmark.

“It’s kind of sore, we were the better team and not to come out with a win is pretty hard to bear”.

Looking forward, he said: “We’re just going to have to put it to bed, keep grinding away and keep ourselves in the mix at the end of the week, that’s all we can ask for.”

The Scots now face USA this morning.

Session 6: USA 5 Japan 9, Norway 6 Sweden 3, Canada 9 Russia 1, Denmark 9 Germany 4.

Session 7: Russia 6 Sweden 7 (extra end), Czech Republic 5 China 6, USA 8 Germany 3, Switzerland 9 Scotland 10 (extra end).

Session 8: Norway 5 China 3, Switzerland 8 Japan 3, Scotland 6 Denmark 7, Canada 10 Czech Republic 6.

Eve Muirhead and her team finished runnersup in a Masters event in Canada. The final was the only match the Olympic bronze medallists lost in the Grand Prairie Showdon inAlberta.

Team Muirhead will be back in Canada in a fortnight for their final event of the season — the Players Championship.
