Filming of series two begins in Dundee

BROUGHTY FERRY welcomed back its most famous fictional son yesterday as filming continued on the second series of Bob Servant.

Dundee-born actor Brian Cox is reprising his role as the former cheeseburger magnate and failed politician and told The Courier that it was “always great” to be back in the Ferry.

Brian and co-star Jonathan Watson, who plays Bob’s long-suffering friend Frank, filmed scenes on the beach before moving to the harbour where a “cheeseburger water disco van” was set up.

Bob Servant creator Neil Forsyth, who hails from Broughty Ferry, said: “If I had my way we’d shoot everything here, but it’s not realistic. But all the outdoor stuff is shot here and Bob’s house is here so you get a real stamp of the show as being within Broughty Ferry.

“People are so friendly and welcoming. Most of the crew are from Glasgow and are so used to shooting around Glasgow and they absolutely love coming up here.

“The locations crew come up in the weeks beforehand and they’re always raving about how accomodating everybody is in Broughty Ferry.”

Equipment and catering trucks lined The Esplanade as the production started its first day of filming in the town after two weeks of shooting in Glasgow.

The cast and crew will be in the Ferry until the end of the week filming the new series, which is due to be broadcast on BBC Scotland and BBC Four in October.

The new show picks up after Bob’s disastrous attempt to be elected MP for Broughty Ferry in the first series.

The show will also feature local actors —including Daniel Hird from Broughty Ferry, who plays Bob’s paper boy, andAndy Clark from Blairgowrie.

Neil said: “This is Bob and Frank in Broughty Ferry getting on with their lives.

“They are working on traditional endeavours work-wise and lovelife-wise and big plans for the waterfront put their relationship to the test.

“The first series was two commissions jammed together.

“This time we’re just going to put the first three out as they are and hopefully we’ll do more.”
